New Smyrna Beach, FL - Monday night, the Tour Type Modifieds headlined the action at New Smyrna Speedway for the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. With names in the field like Ron Silk, Austin Beers, Ryan Preece, and Burt Myers, the field was stout. But what many didn't see coming was the dominant performance by 14-year-old Paulie Hartwig III.

Just one night prior, Hartwig showed his strength in the 602 Modifieds using an impressive move out of turn four to take the lead midway through and hold on for the win, his first career win in the 602s at New Smyrna.

On Monday, the task was taller, scheduled to start from the fifth spot, Hartwig was able to slide up a row due to a scratch from the event. The distance was 60 laps in honor of the 60th World Series. Luke Baldwin led the first three laps before back-to-back cautions bunched the field up and put Hartwig to his inside. A perfect restart and an aggressive move in turn one put Hartwig's No.20 at the front of the field.

Throughout the course of the race, Hartwig opened up a nearly two-second lead at one point in the race as Baldwin fell through the field. With just nine laps to go, and Ron Silk on the charge to catch Hartwig, the caution flew. Hartwig timed the restart perfectly and held off two advances from Silk to pick up his first career Tour Type Modified win in his first career start.

Hartwig has been impressive in his young career. In 2022, at just 11 years old, Hartwig became the youngest ever driver to win a race at North Wilkesboro Speedway with a Crate Modified feature win. Then, in April of 2025, he became the youngest driver to ever win a feature at Hickory Motor Speedway with a last corner pass in the SMART Modified Tour.

Last year during the World Series, Paulie Hartwig, Jr announced his retirement from driving to focus on his son's career - a decision that appears to be paying off.
