Merrill, MI - Officials with the Great Lakes Super Sprints (GLSS) have announced American  Racer as the official tire provider for the 2026 season, concluding a 10-year relationship with  Hoosier Racing Tire.

The decision follows ongoing concerns from GLSS teams over the last few years. Series officials determined that introducing additional competition into the tire market was necessary to help control costs and provide racers with a more sustainable long-term option.

Beginning in 2026, GLSS competition will require American Racer tires on the rear of the car.  The approved tires are the American Racer SD38 in 28.5, 29, or 30 for the left rear, and the  American Racer MC3 on the right rear. Teams may run any brand of tire on the front axle.

To assist teams with the transition, GLSS will implement a burn-off period. Hoosier Medium right rear tires will be permitted for the first four races, while remaining Hoosier left rear tires will be allowed for the first eight races.

GLSS Owner and Promoter Barry Marlow said the timing was right to make the change.

“American Racer sprint car tire availability is excellent, the quality has been consistent, and the pricing will save our drivers money each race,” Marlow said. “Our Hoosier representatives have been great to work with over the years, and this decision is no reflection on their service. ”

GLSS will continue to use the 2025 tire rule for its co-sanctioned events with USCS at I-75  Raceway on April 10–11, allowing Hoosier Medium right rear tires and Hoosier left rears. Tire rules for the June 26 event at Ohsweken Speedway and the June 27 event at Buxton Speedway are currently being finalized in coordination with Ohsweken and Southern Ontario Sprints officials.

With this change, the Great Lakes Traditional Sprints (GLTS) and Great Lakes Lightning Sprints  (GLLS) divisions will operate under an open tire rule, allowing teams to compete on American  Racer or any other tire brand of their choice.

Great Lakes Sprints will serve as the local distributor for American Racer sprint car tires.  Inventory is planned to be warehoused in Lima, Ohio; Elkhart, Indiana; Quincy, Michigan; and  Midland, Michigan. Tire deliveries can be coordinated through Specialty Fuels & Logistics alongside existing methanol deliveries.

The full 2026 Great Lakes Super Sprints rule book is expected to be released in the coming weeks. Schedules for the Great Lakes Traditional Sprints and Great Lakes Lightning Sprints will also be announced soon. For more information, visit GreatLakesSprints.com.
