Buck King Memorial at Whittemore Speedway to Pay $10K to Win Plus Lap Money

Tawas City, MI - During the Growler 100 drivers' meeting held Saturday at Whittemore Speedway, John King announced a new event would make a debut at Whittemore during Labor Day Weekend with a massive prize. The Inaugural Buck King Memorial 100 is set for Saturday, September 5th, featuring Outlaw Super Late Models for 100 laps, with lap money up for grabs as well.

The Buck King Memorial will follow the same format as the Growler 100, with Qualifying, and invert of six plus a dice roll, and 100 laps of green flag action on the 1/4-mile Whittemore Speedway. As plans continue to be finalized, Friday is likely to be a practice day ahead of the main event on Saturday.

On the Horsepower Happenings Podcast, John King gave some of the details for the show.

"We're going to have a memorial race for my father on Labor Day weekend," King told Zach Hiser and Rich Frantz. "I've just had so many people asking, 'Hey are you going to have [a memorial race], then 'we'd like to help', so I talked to Andy [Hess, President of Whittemore Speedway] about it and he goes, 'well, we can have it Labor Day if you want'," King said.

The idea is to mirror the Growler 100, including special awards. The Buck King Memorial 100 will also feature lap money, giving the leader of the race $100 for every lap lead. As of Wednesday, July 1st, 46 laps have already received sponsors toward the $10,000 in additional money on the table.
