VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL - The 2025 DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park was memorable for Watervliet, Michigan's Curt Spalding: five feature wins, including four in a row to secure the Big Gator Championship. The 2026 DIRTcar Nationals, so far? Forgettable.
A promising start to the night came to a sudden end for Spalding, who qualified second fastest in his group and then finished second in his Heat Race to lock into the first A-Main of the week. Coming to the checkered flag of that Heat Race, however, Spalding's No.5 went up in smoke in a big way. Spalding posted an update on his Facebook page early Friday morning,
"... broke a valve in the engine, looking like that will end our Gator run this year. Jumped in the 24 car of Zeke McKenzie to run a few laps in the A, thanks Zeke!"
Curt's son, Tyler Spalding, had a decent showing on Thursday night in his NO.1TS, moving up two spots from 16th to finish 14th. Winamac, Indiana's, Justin Haley came from 18th to finish 9th.
The second night of Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals will see the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds and American Sprint Car Series join forces for a Friday night battle on Jan. 30. Grandstand gates will open at 4 p.m ET, and Hot Laps will begin at 5:30 p.m. How can you watch every lap of racing at Volusia Speedway Park? Live on DIRTVision.
