Crystal, MI - Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes swept across the greater Midwest on Tuesday and Tuesday night, including the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. Strong winds, hail, and, according to Michigan Storm Chasers, a total of nine confirmed tornadoes ranging from EF-0 to EF-2 touched down Tuesday night. Additionally, the northern Lower Peninsula is dealing with extreme flooding, with several dam sites at capacity and nearing failure.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has declared a state of emergency for 32 counties in response to the weather-related threats. The onslaught of heavy rain and flooding has forced Crystal Motor Speedway to cancel their planned events for Saturday, April 18th.
Officials posted on Wednesday afternoon that the weekend would be cancelled, which was scheduled to include racing for Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Pro Stocks, Bombers, and Mini Wedges.
The next event for Crystal Motor Speedway will be Saturday, April 25th, featuring the Great Lakes Super Sprints.
