John King Uses Late Race Move to Win Growler 100

Whittemore, MI - On Saturday, June 27th, the 15th Annual Growler 100 unfolded at the tricky 1/4-mile of Whittemore Speedway. 17 of the area's best Outlaw Super Late Models were on hand ready to battle for the $7,500 prize that awaited them after 100 laps.

Scottie Lamp and Dan Leeck led the field to the green flag, with Lamp taking the early advantage. The race was slowed when John King and Jason Felver came together, battling for position inside the top ten. King "tapped out", taking responsibility for the incident, sending his No.23 to the tail of the field, allowing Felver to keep his spot on the track.

Third starting, Steve Needles kept himself in position to lead the race, staying patient behind Lamp. An issue for Leeck just passed halfway brought his car to a stop on the backstretch, drawing a caution flag. Then, just two laps later, an issue for Blake Childers resulted in fluid being put down on the track, causing Chloe Mazzagatti and Brian Bero to spin. After the restart, Neeldes set his No.14 out in front of the field, but a hard-charging John King was back toward the front.

The final 15 laps saw King and Needles battle and swap the lead several times before King finally set up a pass coming out of turn two with three laps to go. King dove to the inside of Needles entering turn three, and had the lead with two laps to go, hanging on to collect the win.

King becomes the tenth different driver to win the event since the inaugural race at Birch Run Speedway in 2011. Only Tim Felver (2), Todd Rosebrugh (4), and Phil Bozell (2) have won the event multiple times.
