Kennedale, TX - Tragedy struck Saturday night during the B-Main of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event at Kennedale Speedway Park. While cars were lining up for the B-Main, one vehicle, driven by Corsicana, Texas native, Marcus Thomas, ended up on it's side, apparently flipping while trying to take position. As is standard in Sprint Car Racing, when a car flips over, safety crews rush to the scene to check on the driver.

According to a release from World Racing Group, parent company to the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and American Sprint Car Series (both safety crews were in attendance Saturday night), while officials were responding to the incident, two emergency vehicles collided, resulting in a serious injury to one official and a fatal injury to another.

Fans watching at home via the DIRTvision broadcast, note hearing the crowd gasp as panic began to set in around the facility. The broadcast quickly cut to commercial break, before switching coverage to the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. After being absent for roughly 30 minutes, the DIRTvision broadcast from Kennedale Speedway Park returned for only seconds, just long enough for broadcaster, Johnny Gibson, to announce that the evenings events had been postponed due to a medical emergency.

According to reports on social media, fans at Kennedale Speedway Park were largely protected from the incident in the infield, with shielding via banners and tarps keeping fans from seeing what was unfolding. Social media reports also say that fans were asked to refrain from posting photos or videos from the event, and were asked to wait in their seats to allow emergency officials a smooth entrance to the facility, before dismissing the large crowd in attendance.

Names of those involved have not officially been released. According to social media reports, one official was taken to an area hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

No update has been made regarding the status of the postponed event, which was stopped shy of beginning the B-Main, the final prelim race before the Main Event of the evening.
