Rothbury, MI - Winston Speedway officials announced on Tuesday plans to expand the property's footprint as the facility undergoes improvements and upgrades ahead of the 2026 season.
According to a post on social media, the northern Michigan facility will expand a little further north after acquiring the adjacent property directly north of the pits and turns three and four. MARC News has learned that the additional property plays directly into the long term plans for Winston Speedway.
" [The property] allows for a significantly larger pit area to better accommodate teams, crews, and race-day operations," said Speedway Owner, Andrew Heykoop. "This expansion will improve spacing, accessibility, and overall efficiency in the pits, and as part of the long-term vision of the property, the planned campground area will be relocated, opening up the back field for future use as a dedicated music and event venue."
The newly purchased property included a house and garage, which will be repurposed as a property maintenance and operations facility. The location will house track equipment, further opening up space in the current pit area.
The Speedway has also announced that in 2026, traffic flow will change for the pit entrance. All pit traffic will now be routed down McKinley Road, entering along the backstretch via a new access road. The change is designed to reduce congestion and streamline the arrival process for race teams. New check-in facilities are expected to be constructed near turns three and four.
The 2026 season at Winston Speedway is set to begin with Test and Tunes on Monday and Tuesday, April 27th and 28th, before opening night on Friday, May 1st. The lineup includes Super Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Pro Late Models, Street Stocks, Cyber Stocks, and Warriors.
