Championships Still Up For Grabs At Kzoo

Kalamazoo, MI - Just one more Fast Friday remains at Kalamazoo Speedway for the 2026 season, as track champions will be crowned on Friday, August 28. Championships for three of the four weekly divisions are still very much up for grabs.

The current points standings do not factor in a drop week that is new to Kalamazoo for this season.  Each driver will have their worst points night thrown out after the season finale, which could throw a major wrench into the points standings.  A maximum points night for a race night with just qualifying and features is 150 points, 50 in qualifying and 100 for the feature.

The closest points battle sits with the Late Model division, where Mason Metzger retook the points lead from Jared Blanchard last weekend and now has a 52 point cushion going into championship night, while Lane Head sits 90 points back and still mathematically in contention for the title.  After cousin Bryce Bozell won the Limited Late Model track championship the previous two years at 13 and 14, Metzger is now in the catbird seat for the template Late Model track championship at 14, a feat accomplished by uncle Phil Bozell in 2009.

A multi-time track champion at both Berlin Raceway and on the dirt at Hartford Speedway, Josh Frye leads the Limited Late Model points going into the season finale in his first full-time season at Kalamazoo.  He sits 60 points ahead of Jerry Pierman, who also leads the points at nearby Galesburg Speedway.  

Jeffrey Town is closing in on his first-career Kalamazoo Speedway track championship in the Street Stocks, but has defending champion Kyle Ribble sitting just 64 back.  Towns won four features, including back-to-back features the past two weeks, while Ribble’s pointed his way into title contention with consistent results despite having yet to win this season.

The Front Wheel Drive points battle has the largest margin of the four divisions, and while mathematically it’s not over, it could still be wrapped up after qualifying on championship night.  Matthew Elsey Jr. is looking to wrap up his fourth consecutive track championship as he sits 106 points ahead of father Matthew Elsey Sr.  The biggest battle will be for second in points, as grandfather Scott Elsey is just four points back of Matthew Sr. for second in points.  While currently combined on MyRacePass, FWD B and FWD C track champions were also crowned in 2025.

While only one Fast Friday remains on the season, 2026 is still far from over at Kalamazoo Speedway.  The Hot Shoe 100 makes its debut at the World’s Fastest 3/8ths Mile on Friday-Saturday, August 7-8 alongside the Street Stock Showdown.  

Less than two weeks later is the biggest race of the year at Kalamazoo.  Kalamazoo Klash XXXIV for the Outlaw Super Late Models returns to its traditional Wednesday date on August 19.  The Street Stocks return to the Klash card for the Raber’s Rumble, with $5,000 up for grabs.  Both Street Stock races at the Hot Shoe and the Klash are non-points races.

The Super Shoe Nationals returns the final weekend of September, September 26-28.  Three days of on-track action and racecars as far as the eye can see close out the race season.  2026 officially comes to a conclusion with the Bad Santa Enduro on Saturday, November 28.
