LANSING, MI - Motorsports lobbyists from SEMA/PRI are again encouraging the motorsports community in Michigan to take action to show legislators in Lansing that the industry has community support, but needs the support of lawmakers. After receiving bipartisan support in Michigan's House of Representatives, HB 5652/SB 773 was left off the October agenda in the Michigan Senate.

During the recent Michigan Speedway Promoters Association meeting, SEMA/PRI Director of Government Affairs, Tierra Hubbard, explained that after going to the Regulatory Affairs Committee, the Bill hasn't moved since. Lobbyists were told that the Bill would be on the October Agenda of items to discuss, but when the agenda was released, the Bill was absent.

Hubbard explained that the next two weeks are extremely important in getting the Bill in front of lawmakers for consideration. With the upcoming election, many Representatives and Senators are likely to lose their seat. If the Bill doesn't make it to Governor Gretchen Whitmer's desk before the end of the year, the process will essentially start over with the new incoming lawmakers.

Michigan Motorsports enthusiasts can help encourage movement on the Bill by contacting Senate Regulatory Affairs Committee Chair, Jeremy Moss. Hubbard provided a sample letter/email outline to send to Moss' office in support of the Bill. She noted it's important that the letters are sent with positive intent and are not used as an opportunity to degrade or negatively address lawmakers.

Michigan residents are strongly encouraged to send emails, write letters, or call Senator Moss' office before the upcoming election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
