Naida Sweeps GLSS Weekend in Ohio; Hannagan Named Regional Champion

Merrill, MI - The Ohio CAT (South) Division of the Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP (GLSS) came to a close over the weekend with stops at Mansfield Speedway and Millstream Speedway. Amid the pair of 25-lap main events was an undecided regional points battle between Mason Hannagan, Chase Dunham, and Max Stambaugh, which kept fans on the edge of their seats right through the finale at Millstream on Saturday night.

After qualifying sixth overall on Friday night, Naida grabbed his heat race win after an intense battle with 2019 GLSS Champion, Phil Gressman. Naida pulled the one pill during the redraw and commenced to putting on a clinic during the 25-lap main event at Millstream Speedway. The race was slowed after a first-lap incident between Ryan Conium and Greg Wilson, when the pair of veteran drivers collided entering turn three. The contact sent Wilson for a wild flip that also collected Caleb Harmon.

After the red flag, the remainder of the race stayed green, allowing Naida to put over three seconds between himself and Nate Dussel, who came from seventh. Sixth-starting Chase Dunham came home third ahead of Devon Dobie and Mason Hannagan. 14th-starting Max Stambaugh kept the Ohio CAT Division and GLSS Tour Championship close by finishing sixth, while Kobe Allison earned the Operating Engineers 324 Hard Charger, advancing nine positions.

Thanks to Friday night’s performances, teams rolled into Millstream Speedway on Saturday night with their calculators nearly a-blaze, trying to keep pace with the championship battle. Just over 20 points separated Hannagan and Dunham, with a little more than 40 points between Hannagan and Stambaugh. Dunham gained valuable points on Hannagan after qualifying, earning his eighth Ti22 Performance Fast Qualifier award of the season, while Hannagan qualified third.

Devon Dobie and Phil Gressman brought the field to the green flag. Max Stambaugh and Mason Hannagan made the redraw, while Dunham started just outside the redraw in the seventh spot. Ironically enough, directly behind Hannagan, who started fifth, and Stambaugh who rolled off sixth.

The battle for the lead was three-wide at the exit of turn four on the first lap, with Dobie coming out ahead of Naida and Gressman. After a restart, Naida put his No.11N to the front of the field before another quick yellow waved with 20 laps to go. Meanwhile, Hannagan, Dunham, and Stambaugh stayed close to each other, racing for position. Dunham and Stambaugh both needed to win the race to have a chance to win the Ohio CAT Division Championship.

With just four laps to go, Dunham overdrove the car in turns three and four and spun to the bottom of the race track, drawing a caution flag and sending the No.66 to the tail of the field. With Dunham to the back, Hannagan sat in a good position to lock up the championship with Stambaugh still near him on the track. As Naida took the checkered flag, Hannagan officially became a Great Lakes Super Sprints Champion for the first time.

“Tonight was a little harder than it needed to be, honestly,” Hannagan said on the front stretch. “I’ve never raced on anything like this before, so it was a test. I thought Chase [Dunham] had this thing won, points-wise; I didn’t really know where we were at. Obviously, to click one off this early [in my career], though, is pretty special.”

The next event for the Great Lakes Super Sprints is Saturday, September 5th at Winston Speedway in Rothbury, Michigan, before the 2026 MacAllister CAT (North) Division and Tour Champions are crowned on Sunday, September 6th at Crystal Motor Speedway.
