Plymouth Powerhouse: Zane DeVault Grabs 3rd GLSS Win of the Season for $5K

Lake Odessa, MI - With $5,000 on the line Friday night for the Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP, nearly 30 cars unloaded for a chance at the increased payday. The GLSS regulars and invaders waged a night-long war before a big check was handed out at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan.

Dustin Daggett and Devon Dobie led the field to the green flag, with Daggett jumping out to the early lead. The fan favorite had snapped a nearly two-year winless streak earlier this season at I-96 and looked set to return to victory lane. Third-starting Darin Naida moved his way into the second spot, and eighth-place starter, Zane DeVault moved his way to the front. 

Just before the halfway mark in the race, the handle on Daggett’s car clearly went away as Naida ran him down and started to look for a lane to pass. As Daggett began to fade, Jett Mann spun over the backstretch, drawing the first caution flag of the race. With the field slowed, Daggett went to the Hot Pit with a flat right rear tire, handing things over to Darin Naida.

On the restart, Naida got an impressive start, gapping DeVault at the front of the field. With ten laps to go, DeVault got a run out of turn four and threw a slider in turns one and two taking the lead from Naida. In lapped traffic with just seven laps to go, Naida took the lead back from DeVault, but not for long, as DeVault officially led once again with five laps to go. As the pair exchanged the lead, Max Stambaugh reeled in the pair at the front.

DeVault was able to hold the front of the field and grab his third win of the season with the Great Lakes Super Sprints, the only driver to win multiple times.

“I ran my butt off trying to get it,” DeVault said in victory lane. “Darin [Naida] put up a good fight and I wasn’t going to let that slip through my fingers once we got to him. It was really hard; it had a big curb, but you could get to it, but it was definitely treacherous. Just kind of put the pressure on him, and hopefully he would bobble when I got to him and got a slide job.”

Naida and Stambaugh held on to round out the podium. Jared Horstman and Devon Dobie completed the top five.

Chase Ridenour was the Operating Engineers 324 Hard Charger, advancing 10 spots.
