Madison, WI - On Wednesday of this week, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers vetoed a bill aimed at protecting motorsports facilities from nuisance claims for noise. The bill aimed to keep residents from moving in near the track and then filing litigation that would eventually lead to the track's closure. Lobbyists from SEMI/PRI have been working to move this bill through the legislative process in over a dozen states, with the bill signed into law in Iowa and North Carolina last year. Michigan is one of the 13 states who are working to pass similar legislation.

After Governor Evers' decision to veto the bill was made public, MARCNews.org requested a statement from SEMI/PRI on the decision. Tierra Hubbard, Director of Government Affairs - Racing, responded with these remarks:

"Racetracks across Wisconsin came together in a unified effort to advance Right-to-Race

legislation, demonstrating the strength and collaboration of our motorsports community," Hubbard said. "Together, we represent a significant economic and tourism impact that contributes meaningfully to communities across the state and plays an important role in Wisconsin’s culture and heritage. We are grateful to the Wisconsin Legislature for advancing AB 880 to the Governor’s desk with bipartisan support. We extend a special thank you to the bill sponsors and the many legislators who stood with our industry."

"Governor Tony Evers has often recalled his fond memories of attending racing events as a child, having grown up near a racetrack," Hubbard continued. "Yet, he has vetoed AB 880, legislation designed to protect long-standing racetracks from nuisance lawsuits brought by new neighbors and developers."

"While we are disappointed in this decision, our commitment remains unchanged," she concluded. "We will continue to open our doors and stand together to protect Wisconsin’s racetracks, the communities they support, and the generations of families who call them home. The checkered flag hasn’t waved. Our coalition is stronger than ever, and we are

committed to getting this across the finish line."
