STEVENSVILLE, MI - A week ago on Sunday, a 16-year-old, West Michigan Youth Racer, Parker McKinney, was rushed to Corewell Health Helen DeVoss Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids after what was described as a "serious car accident". Later, it was revealed that McKinney was run over by a pick-up truck after being pulled by the truck in the snow. Throughout the course of the week, the family has provided updates via the GoFundMe account that was set up after the accident.
According to the family, doctors told them that McKinney is showing signs of improvement, including being removed from sedation for a short time. MRI readings showed positive changes and improvements in the week that he has been in the hospital.
The latest update says the next major hurdle for the teenager will be on Wednesday, when he's scheduled for a tracheostomy and surgery on his jaw. The post says that updates are likely to become less frequent, noting that they are "in a stable place right now."
Meanwhile, another breath of fresh air for the McKinney family, the GoFundMe account has soared past the $20,000 goal, and now sits at over $21K.
